John Lee Hooker recorded various versions of Maudie both in Standard Tuning and Open A (Spanish Tuning). For this lesson Tom Feldmann takes you through the rare acoustic live version and you'll be treated to John Lee Hooker performing the tune on a nylon acoustic. Maudie is a one chord song in E but holds the up-down strum technique that Hooker used throughout all of his recordings and also features hammer-ons, trills, as well string snaps and a great guitar break playing E in A position at the 9th fret. Also, the driving boogie bass lines that opens the piece are used in many of Hooker's later recordings.
