Before Bukka White recorded his classics: "Jitterbug Swing," "Fixin' To Die," "Parchman Farm," etc., he recorded two spirituals, "The Promise True and Grand" and "I Am In The Heavenly Way," both with Miss Minnie accompanying on vocals. Bukka's playing is wild, strong, and deceptively simple, not only on this piece but all his pieces. Using open strings, hammer-on's, and lsingle-sstring this piece is a great example of Bukka's style and frankly too fun to pass up. In fact, this is one of Tom Feldmann's "desert island" songs.
