This DVD lesson has been designed to help beginner and intermediate students of fingerpicking country blues guitar improve their playing skills and increase their repertoires using an alternating bass technique. I illustrate and explain in detail ten fingerstyle arrangements in the keys of C, D, E, A, G and F.
These popular blues and ragtime songs come from the playing of Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis, Mance Lipscomb and Elizabeth Cotten. Each tune is discussed and taught phrase by phrase and played slowly on a split screen so that you can clearly see what each hand is doing.
Titles include: My Creole Belle, Louis Collins, Oh Babe Ain't No Lie, All My Friends Are Gone, See See Rider, Sugarbabe, Monday Morning Blues, Candyman, Sister Kate and The F Rag

Review: Building a better guitar lesson... I am just about to bring my time with this DVD to a close... for now. But I will keep it for a reference as this is a beautiful DVD - well thought out, each song builds on the next and inspires confidence in your ability to begin to master this wonderful style of american music. I do not believe anyone does country blues more justice than Stefan Grossman. He is approachable, educated about his chosen subject matter, passionate about teaching you and willing to share of himself. I cannot think of a better recommendation for a teacher. This is billed as a repertoire lesson and it is that... but it is also a treasure of techniques that can be put to use in building your own blues. The other review covers much of this territory, but from a student's perspective, this man inspires me to continue to learn. – John Fulmore/Amazon Customer Review
Review: Another terrific Grossman product! Like all of Stefan Grossman's instructive DVDs, this also is of the highest quality. He moves slowly and carefully, anticipates where students will stumble, and encourages wonderfully. Please read my other reviews for more detail: needless to say, if you are beyond the basic beginning of guitar (basic chords), you will love the teaching of Stefan Grossman! He is as gifted as an instructor as he is as a guitarist! – Peter Hyatt/Amazon Customer Review

Review: This DVD, along with Grossman's Fingerpicking Guitar Techniques, is the best path I have found into learning this style of playing. Fingerpicking Guitar Techniques spends more time, as its title suggests, on working through basic techniques, so it's the place to begin. But the songs early on in this dvd aren't any harder than the songs midway through the other one, and I at least like the song selection here better. And these songs are arranged to gradually build technique as well, each one a bit more complex than the last, with some new technique introduced. So once you've started with the Techniques video, pick up this one too, and the two together will help you build a repertoire of wonderful songs and teach you a lot about country blues styles. – Isabella Miller/Amazon Customer Review
