Few names are as synonymous with the guitar as that of Chet Atkins. He set the standard by which generations of country fingerstyle guitarists have been measured. But his influence transcends regions and genres. The sound of 20th century guitar would not be the same without the impact of this gentle genius who was at the height of his influence and creative powers when the performances presented in this video were captured.
The much traveled "Mr. Guitar" is seen playing in this video collection everywhere from Nashville to Norway. His signature Gretsch Tennesseean guitar, on which Chet made exquisitely effective use of its Bigsby vibrato bar, is heard in all its sweet, reverb-laden glory on many of these clips. But Chet, whose versitility embraces all styles of guitar, is also seen playing a classical model and a Martin dreadnaught. No matter what he plays, the sound produced becomes a distinct auditory fingerprint of the man known in Nashville as C.G.P. (Certified Guitar Player).
The relaxed mastery evident in this video explains why Chet was honored in 1993 with a Lifetime Achievement Award Grammy: "For his peerless fingerstyle guitar technique, his extensive creative legacy documented on more than one hundred albums, and his influential work on both sides of the recording console as a primary architect of the Nashville sound."

Review: The Master Musician and His Music. Chet Atkins was, is, and always will be the master of guitar. This video starts with a very young Chet Atkins and uncovers even then, the absolute genius of this man. No matter where he is or what song he plays, he never misses a lick. Though it may be considered vintage or classic by some, it is still very current and tasteful. Anytime one has the chance to view this master at his work, I would suggest this, - don't miss the opportunity. - This video shows Chet at his best as always, and one does not need to be a guitarist as myself to enjoy this video over and over again. One can immediately tell from this video that Chet loved his guitar and he loved his profession. This is a great collection for any music lover. – Gary Jones/Amazon Customer Review
Review: A Chet Atkins set of 'live' performances from his early years up to 1975 includes his signature Gretsch Electric Guitar plus his Classical Guitar and shows demonstrably how he makes that which is very difficult look easy. No guitarist has ever come near! His sad passing on June 30th 2001 leaves the world poorer and us 'believers' will never forget him. – I.G. Thurston/Amazon Customer Review
