Lesson One: ACCOMPANIMENT - We start with backing up your singing and an introduction to basic fingerpicking, learning to play lots of rhythms and patterns (waltzes, ballads, fast tunes, etc.). How to use picks is discussed. Tunes featured include: Nine Pound Hammer,Rising Sun Blues, Stealin', Railroad Bill Wanderin' and more.

Lesson Two: FINGERPICKING BLUES - Fingerstyle was the technique of many great blues players, including Lightnin' Hopkins, Brownie McGhee, Elizabeth Cotten, Mance Lipscomb and others. This is a chance to learn some of their licks, patterns and techniques. Tunes featured include: Spike Driver's Moan, Hesitation Blues, John Henry, Betty and Dupree and more.

Lesson Three: COUNTRY FINGERPICKING - We stay in the easy first position chords, learning to play backup and lead in the styles of Doc Watson, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and others. Tunes featured include: Nine Pound Hammer, The Wreck of Old 97, Careless Love, Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arm, Wabash Cannonball and more.
